A Colonial Christmas in Delaware

New Castle, Del., puts the historic charm of its preserved colonial streets to good use during their Spirit of Christmas celebration Dec. 14.

The village is located along the banks of the Delaware river and just minutes from Wilmington and the Brandywine Wine Trail.

During the celebration, you'll get a peek inside the fully occupied historic buildings that make New Castle so special, including tours of private homes, museums and businesses all decked out in true colonial trimmings.

Carriage rides, carolers, live music and a tree lighting will fill the streets, and homemade foods like soups and breads, as well as gifts and crafts will be for sale throughout the brick-lined streets of this Christmas town.

Kids will have the chance to meet Santa Claus as he strolls through the streets, and later in  the evening, the Read House, Amstel House and Old Dutch House will offer candlelight tours.

The event takes place Dec. 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in New Castle, about two hours from downtown D.C.  Call 302-328-3279 for more info.
