2015 Bluegrass Jam in Richmond

Although a cold front is gripping the D.C. area, you may be itching to get out of the house. If so, head down to the Richmond Bluegrass Jam this Saturday, an all-day -- and INDOOR -- music fest featuring 30 bands on three stages.

If you're daring enough, the fest also offers up one stage with a dedicated open mic all day to showcase your budding music skills. Bring your own instruments, of course.

Admission to the fest is free, but donations are strongly encouraged. Local craft beer and food vendors will be set up during the festival, as well as food trucks. The event is family-friendly, with kids' activities throughout the day.

The festival isn't just for music lovers to unite; it's also raising funds for the Fisher House of Richmond, which provides a place for military families to stay while their wounded warriors receive medical care. In the past five years, the festival has donated roughly $64,000 to the veterans and their loved ones.

The festival runs from noon to midnight Feb. 21 at the Cultural Arts Center (2880 Mountain Road, Glen Allen, Virginia), about two hours south of downtown D.C.
