Hands-On History at the National Constitution Center

Quite possibly America's most hands-on history museum, the National Constitution Center (525 Arch St., Philadelphia, Pa.) is located just two blocks from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall -- that's a history lesson alone.

It's also the only museum devoted to deepening the understanding of America’s founding document, the Constitution, via daily workshops, educational seminars, speakers and non-partisan debates.

Make your own paper at the paper mill; learn to use a printing press the way Benjamin Franklin did, and even become part of a board game by serving as a game piece during the Constitutional and American history board game.

With the price of admission, you'll get access to the daily museum programs, the chance to sign the Constitution alongside bronze statues of the Founding Fathers, see the interactive exhibition "The Story of We the People," and watch "Freedom Rising," a 17-minute theatrical production that runs every  half-hour.

The center is open weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is $14.50 for adults; $13 for teens 13-18; $8 per child ages 4-12 and free for kids younger than three/

The museum is located about three hours from downtown D.C.
