Macy's Center City Decks the Halls

Macy's in Philadelphia Goes All Out

Don't be afraid to go the extra miles to make your season memorable.

The Christmas Pageant of Lights at Macy’s Center City in Philadelphia is a tradition that dates back half a century. More than 100,000 bright lights combined to create scenes accompanied by festive music from world-renowned Wanamaker Grand Organ and narration by Julie Anderson.

The show runs every hour on the hour, beginning at 10 a.m., daily through Friday, Dec. 23 -- but that's not all you'll find there. In a turn reminiscent of the New York Macy's in "A Miracle on 34th Street," the department store uses its windows for impressive winter wonderland displays, with snowflakes, ballerinas and reindeer along velvet curtains.

In the Egyptian Room on the third floor, you can walk though Dickens Village, which has been recently rebuilt and reanimated. The 6,000-square-foot village will bring to life the Charles Dickens classic "A Christmas Carol," with more than 100 animated figures reenacting the most memorable moments.
Macy's Center City is located at 1300 Market St., Philadelphia, Penn., not quite a three-hour drive from downtown D.C.
