Hot Glass Festival in Staunton

Find a hot piece of glass... at the Virginia Hot Glass Festival. Our heads aren't in the gutter we swear, it's a real event at Sunspots Studios (202 S. Lewis St., Staunton, Va.).

Live demos of hot glass, a stone-carving exhibit and flame throwing are on the schedule at this year's free fest, set for Saturday and Sunday, April 28-29. A fire-breathing dragon will be "born" before the crowds Saturday morning, and a flaming ray gun will be created on Sunday.

Glass artists from all over the region will demo their skills and crafts throughout the weekend. Browse for gifts or shop for something to spruce up your space at home.

Kids will be invited to draw pictures of something they want a glass artist to make, and a few lucky kids will see their vision turned into glass. Other visitors will be chosen to walk into the studio to assist glass blowers.

The festival is open 9 a.m  to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Staunton is located a bit less than three hours southwest of D.C., not far from Charlottesville.
