When was a last time you unleashed your inner Indiana Jones? And no, we don't mean "hiding in a fridge to survive a nuclear bomb."
At Go Ape! Treetop Adventure at Rock Creek Regional Park (6129 Needwood Lake Drive, Rockville, Md.), adrenaline junkies can shun leisurely nature walks in favor of highwires, ladders, rope bridges, wood tunnels and zip lines.
Zoom through the trees on the zipline course, swing through the trees and scamper along the rope bridges set up in a lush Maryland forest. You'll get set up with a harness and a safety tutorial before going out on a limb yourself.
It's getting chilly out, but the course stays open until mid-December. Dress appropriately for a day in the woods and prepare to get a little dirty. The experts also recommend donning ankle-supportive shoes if possible, but sneakers are fine too. Taking photos and videos on the course is fine, but make sure you strap on your camera via lanyard first.
And if it happens to rain the day you go -- fear not. Go Ape stays open in all-weather conditions, including rain, snow and even lightning. Actually, you know what? Stay out of the trees if there's lightning.
The course takes two to three hours to complete, but you're welcome to take as long as you want or need to explore. The park recommends booking your session in advance online or by calling 888-520-7322.
The course is open Thursdays through Mondays in November, and weekends only in December. Adult admission is $55; kids explore for $35.
