Ever been invited to a birthday bash for Elvis? No?! Well, you are now. (OK, you and everyone else, but still.)
The Virginia Museum of Fine Art (200 N. Boulevard, Richmond, Va.) is hosting an Elvis birthday celebration this Sunday, Jan. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m., with Barbara Gray on the guest list.
Gray is the no-longer-mysterious woman scandalously touching tongues with the King in the famed photo "The Kiss," which was snapped in Richmond during the summer of 1956. She'll be on-hand to sign autographs, pose for photographs and sign books.
"The Kiss" is just one of the images in the museum's exhibit Elvis at 21: Photographs by Alfred Wetheimer, which opened Christmas Eve. The photos -- featuring a young Elvis on the verge of superstardom -- will be on view through March 18, including some taken around Richmond.
Oh, and there's plenty of birthday cake to go around.
If you can't make it Saturday, consider ditching work early one Friday, when the Virginia Museum of Fine Art hosts its First Fridays events, the first week of each month. Enjoy drink specials and a free half-hour gallery tour (7 and 7:30 p.m.).
Museum tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors 65+, students with ID, adult groups of 10+, kids ages 7-17.
