Earth Day 5K to Benefit Chesapeake Bay

On your mark, get set, go! To this year’s Earth Day 5K, that is.

Pacers Running Stores is hosting its fourth annual Earth Day 5K on Sunday, April 29 to benefit the Nature Conservancy, an international organization that works to protect the environment, including the Chesapeake Bay.

Last year approximately 1,000 runners signed up to participate, supporting efforts to seed the bay with millions of baby oysters.

This year’s race will also benefit the bay, helping to restore oysters and protect the surrounding forests and wetlands, both of which improve the bay’s water quality.

“Runners on April 29 will help us make great strides,” said Chesapeake Bay Program Director for the Conservancy Mark Bryer. "We have a long way to go before we cross the finish line of restoring the bay."

The 5K will begin at 8 a.m. at Pacers Silver Spring (8535 Fenton St., Silver Spring, Md.). It is just one in a series of Pacers Events races in the area.

Registration is $30 now through April 28, and $35 on the day of the race.
