Your Own Winter Olympics at Woodloch Resort

Woodloch Resort grabbed our attention mainly because of the abundance of activities it offers year-round to guests. We also won't fail to mention their award-winning spa (the Lodge at Woodloch), since you simply can't ski all the time.

Woodloch (731 Welcome Lake Road, Hawley, Penn., about 280 miles north of downtown D.C.) can accommodate more than 900 guests, and those guests need to be entertained. Woodloch seems to have gotten the meaning of enjoyment down to a tee. The activities seem endless (that's a good thing) as they have events for every season and age group.

In the summer, enjoy fishing, bumper boats and batting cages. In the winter you can bundle up for snowmobiling, snow tubing or winter hay rides (don't forget the bumper car building).

Speaking of winter, the resort actually hosts its own version of the Winter Olympics. Teams of 10 compete in outdoor games such as hockey, mountain bowling and snow shovel pass. The Amazing Race event will have teams running around the resort through a series of challenges.

The Traditional American Plan is a popular package for guests. The all-inclusive deal offers three meals a day, activities, nightly entertainment, and either a standard or waterfront suite with balcony. High-speed Wifi is available throughout the resort as well.

You can also stray from the norm and opt for the non-traditional package, which puts you in a fully furnished temporary home, but doesn't include meals, housekeeping, tax or surcharges.

Rates (see PDF) are per person, per night and vary based on the number of occupants, accommodation type and meal package selected. Adult rates are up to $202/midweek and $340/weekends. All meals (inclusive) with the inclusive package are in the main dining room -- and all you free spirits feel free to grab some grub at the Grille Room or Vista Dining Room.

Entertainment in the Heritage Nightclub includes theme shows, comedy acts and live music. The North Lodge, another entertainment hub, offers cooking classes, karaoke, bingo and line dancing. Game rooms offer classic and new arcade games, ping pong, foosball and a Wii room. If you just need to dress it down, hit the sports bar just outside the North Lodge.
