Enjoy the Great Outdoors… While 40 Feet Above It

Spring has finally sprung and now is the perfect time to start planning those weekend getaways to the great outdoors. Located less than an hour away from D.C., you'll find a one-stop adventure shop for kayaking, biking, windsurfing, horseback riding and more.

Terrapin Adventures (8600 Foundry St., #50, Savage, Md.) is a year-round outdoor tour center that combines fitness with environmentally-friendly fun.

Visitors will be guided by experts with outdoor experience from all over the world. We’re talking people who have traveled through Thailand, Singapore and the jungles of Belize -- along with the occasional Boy Scout.

Tours vary in length and cost, but each one brings you closer to nature and to your friends, through team-building activities.

Highlights include a 30-foot-high zipline that takes you through the forest at speeds up to 20 miles per hour, a giant swing that takes you up to almost 40 feet in the air, and a 43-foot-high climbing tower with a view of the Little Patuxent River.

Additionally, Terrapin Adventures is right down the road from civilization... meaning the historic Savage Mill shopping center. What more could you want?

This Sunday March 25, you can visit for a special Beer and Fear event in association with Rams Head Tavern at 3 p.m.

Admission ($69.95) includes the climbing tower, the High Ropes Challenge Course, the zipline and the giant swing, as well as your choice of six entrees and samples of six Rams Head Tavern beers or wine. We recommend you book in advance since there aren't many slots left.

Several of the tours offer discounts for making reservations in advance. You can book online or call 301-725-1313 for more information.
