100 Miles of Lights: Way More Fun Than Commuting

The D.C. area has some of the worst traffic in the country -- but believe it or not, there is is a way to have fun while driving, and it doesn't involve pranking call-in radio stations. Southern Virginia's annual 100 Miles of Lights stretches along I-64 from Richmond, all the way to Virginia Beach and everywhere in between.

More than two million twinkling lights -- via drive-through and walk-through light shows -- will be illuminated in Richmond, Williamsburg, Newport News and more.

In Virginia Beach, check out McDonalds Holiday Lights on the Beach (no fast food involved), the Holiday Parade on the Beach or visit Hunt Club farm.

Richmond has a lot going on, too, including the Lewis Ginters GardenFest of Lights and the James Center Holiday Lights. Newport News has the Celebration of Lights and a Charles Dickens dinner entertainment night.

There are multiple options and locations to enjoy the 100 Miles of Lights in Virginia, and group packages are available as well. See events planned for each of the participating cities here, with plenty going on through New Year's Day.

And just be glad you don't have to pay their power bills.
