The Wrong Way To Conduct Sexaholic Movie Research

Philip Winchester might have gone a confession too far in preparing for his lead role as a sexaholic for "In My Sleep."

Both writer/director Allen Wolf and Winchester attended Sexaholics Anonymous meetings to investigate the life of a sexaholic for the thriller. Wolf says Winchester went beyond observing.

"(Philip) actually went as the character in the film, and confessed things as the character," Wolf tells PopcornBiz. "He actually ended up feeling not great about it."

Winchester took pause as he started building relationships with the actual members of the support group as his movie character rather than as a person.

"He met all these amazing people and thought, they are here working through real things and I'm talking about something that's fictional," Wolf recalls.

Meanwhile the director and writer of the film (opening in NY and LA Friday), just kept silent and observed at his meetings.

"I kind of kept it low-key," says Wolf.

Either way it was an enlightening process. "We both came away with deep admiration for anyone going through the process," says Wolf. "These are people that you meet every day that are wonderful people -- that have something they are working out."
