Ashton Kutcher Finds Keeping to a Movie Budget is Killer

Ashton Kutcher may lead a charmed life, but that only goes so far when it came to producing his first feature film "Killers."

When asked if the movie came in on time and under budget, Kutcher dropped his head and said simply, "No."

"We sort of set out to make a $100 million movie for $70 million," he said at the film's press day. "Those are always tricky."

"This movie had its own corrections."

In the action-romantic-comedy due out Friday, Kutcher plays a spy who meets Katherine Heigl in Nice and falls in love. But the South of France was not its usual balmy self which slowed the process down.

"It was freezing," said Kutcher. "And windy. And we were on a yacht that was pitching."

When production moved to Atlanta, the crew found the same problems. "In the middle of the night one of our generators was struck by lightning," Kutcher said. "And it rained and rained and rained. We got fogged out one night when we were shooting outdoors. It was like every time one of these things happened we had to completely rejigger what we were doing."

In the end, Kutcher said he was "extremely satisfied with the film." And as far as the setbacks went, they were not terrible.

"We got very close (to budget)," he said. "I think we were a couple of days over and a couple dollars over."
