Actress Crystal Reed says MTV’s amped-up re-imagination of “Teen Wolf” is a lycanthropic breed apart from the comedic original that starred Michael J. Fox. “It's not going to be anything like the 80s movie,” said Reed, who’ll be playing enigmatic high schooler Allison Argent. “It's young and fun and sexy and surprising – and scary, which is something that I think people are going to be amazed by! Like, gory-scary!”

And like their brethren in the “Twilight” saga, this wolf pack will have its fair share of angst-y teenage biting and petting.

“There's a romance, right in the center,” said Reed. “It's kind of a Romeo & Juliet: You have a romance but a major conflict, and I play the character who provides that major conflict. I'm the new girl who doesn't realize that things in her past are bad. She's going to be providing a lot of mystery and scary things.”

The series, which bows earlier next year, promises to strain the boundaries of edginess allowed on basic cable. “It's pretty risqué,” Reed giggled. “I'm not going to give anything away, but I will say that MTV is definitely pushing the envelope with this one. And I think that they're doing it because scripted is so new to them, and this the baby and they put a lot of money into it. It'll be worth watching, I promise!”
