D.C. United's Jaime Moreno on Retirement: “It's Heartbreaking”

It's never easy to see a teammate retire -- when the captain's the one calling it quits, it's that much harder.

D.C. United players and fans gathered at 19th Bar Saturday night for a post-season party and farewell for retiring forward and Captain Jaime Moreno.

Teammates saluted his 15 years as Moreno considered what happened that night on the field -- and his future.

"Well, you know, it's heartbreaking," Moreno told Niteside. " I never thought it was going to be like this -- this hard to leave."

Fans may yet see Moreno lace up his cleats again.

"I'm not sure where I'm going next," said the soccer star, suggesting that his retirement might not be final, though he and his wife, Louise, did share plans to launch a non-profit foundation. "I'm happy to have contributed to the team, to have done something important in my career. You always think you could have done more, but I'm pretty happy tonight. I think I've done well."
