Va. Lawmakers Vote to Repeal Tax on Hybrid Vehicles

Virginia lawmakers have voted to repeal a year-old tax on hybrid vehicles.

The House of Delegates on Thursday voted 89-9 to scrap the $64 tax, following a similar 35-3 Senate vote earlier this week.

Media outlets report that Gov. Terry McAuliffe has said he will sign the measure to repeal the tax enacted last year as part of a comprehensive transportation funding package.

Hybrid drivers had argued that they should be rewarded, not penalized, for buying an energy-saving vehicle.

The move will reduce anticipated state revenue by about $6.9 million next year.
