Shaky Lamp Post Secured at Mayor's Press Conference

Four D.C. reporters were distracted from a mayoral press conference at 1:30 p.m. Monday by a teetering lamp post in front of the John A. Wilson Building on Pennsylvania Avenue at 14th Street in Northwest.

While the mayor and city officials were talking about serious budget issues and review by Congress, News4's Tom Sherwood, WTOP's Mark Segraves, Washington City Paper's Alan Suderman and WAMU's Patrick Madden admittedly were thinking about something else. They pushed and prodded, thinking that if the shaky lamp post happened to fall, it would be a far more interesting story.

But the mayor's staff approached and secured the post before it could accidentally fall.
