Norton: No Reason for D.C. to Worry About GOP Gains

The District of Columbia's delegate to Congress says there's no reason for leaders or residents of the heavily Democratic District to be upset about the Republican takeover of the Senate.

Democratic Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton met Thursday with mayor-elect Muriel Bowser. She says Bowser was not discouraged by the Republican gains in the midterm elections. She says it's wrong to assume that Republicans are interested in meddling with District affairs.

Norton noted that that she got more accomplished when Republican Newt Gingrich was House speaker than she has at virtually any other time in her nearly 24-year tenure.

Norton says her immediate goal is for Congress to fund the District government without any new restrictions, and she's optimistic she can accomplish that during the lame-duck session.
