Md. Senate Bill Would Create 6th Casino, Table Games

National Harbor, Rosecroft Raceway possible locations

The Maryland Senate is considering a new measure that would expand casino gambling in the state.

The measure introduced on Monday would allow table games like blackjack, roulette and poker at Maryland casinos.

Under the current law, only slot machines are allowed.

The bill would also make it possible to build a sixth casino in the state. It would be located in Prince George's County at National Harbor on the waterfront or Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington.

That would require approval of voters statewide as well as voters in Prince George's County.

Of the five casinos already approved by Maryland law, only two have opened so far. The third will open this summer in Anne Arundel County.

The sponsor of the bill, Sen. Douglas J.J. Peters, said he hopes a hearing will be held on the measure in the month of February.
