Gray Still Wants Protesters Evicted From McPherson Square

District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray said he'd still like to see Occupy DC evicted from McPherson Square to allow for cleanup of the site.

The mayor has suggested that the protesters' tents be relocated from McPherson to Freedom Plaza, home to a smaller Occupy encampment. Both sites are park service property.

National Park Service director Jonathan Jarvis said Tuesday that U.S. Park Police will soon begin to enforce the ban on camping in the square. But NPS said participants will be ticketed individually and the tents will be allowed to remain.

Gray said Wednesday he'll continue talking with NPS about the best ways to deal with the Occupy site. He said he must protect the health and safety of district residents and surrounding businesses.
