Former D.C. Councilmember Michael A. Brown reported to federal prison Tuesday, months after he pleaded guilty to corruption following an FBI sting, News4's Mark Segraves reports.
Brown wrote in an email to supporters that he will report to a facility in Montgomery, Alabama. A spokesperson from the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed to News4 Tuesday evening that Brown had arrived at the Federal Prison Camp there.
In May, Brown was sentenced to 39 months in prison for taking more than $50,000 in bribes in an FBI sting, during which an undercover agent posed as a businessman who was seeking preferential treatment on government contracts.
Brown admitted to taking the money from the agent.
"I should have resisted the culture of corruption going through our city," Brown said at his sentencing hearing Thursday.
He said he accepted $15,000 in cash in a duffel bag that also contained a Nationals baseball cap and T-shirt, according to court documents.
It was followed by another $10,000 in cash inside a Redskins mug, as well as other cash payments, Segraves reported.

Brown also admitted to accepting illegal campaign contributions from businessman Jeffrey Thompson, who earlier this spring pleaded guilty to spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to illegally finance local and federal elections.
After his release from prison, Brown will be under supervised probation for 24 months and will be required to perform 200 hours of community service.
Prosecutors had asked for a prison term of 43 months, the most he could get under the terms of a plea bargain he struck last year.
