The former treasurer of a Loudoun County volunteer fire department has pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $600,000.

Seventy-nine-year-old Jerry Keith Cromer Jr. of Gainesville entered the plea Wednesday in federal court in Alexandria. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

According to a statement of facts, Cromer was treasurer of the Aldie Volunteer Fire Department from 1995 to 2012. Prosecutors say he embezzled the money to pay his mortgage and credit card bills.
