D.C. has lost its second voting representative on the regional transit authority board.
News outlets report Corbett Price announced Friday that he was resigning effective immediately. Price told D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser that he was resigning as a District representative for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) board over a family matter and upcoming surgery. He was appointed in 2015 and approved for a second term this year.
Several council members unsuccessfully tried to oust Price in July after he lied about an independent ethics probe. Price was on the ethics committee that commissioned an outside law firm to investigate allegations against D.C. Councilmember Jack Evans, who is still under federal investigation.
Price, Evans and Evans' attorney lied about the investigation, saying the committee cleared Evans of any allegations. But Evans had been found guilty of failing to disclose a conflict of interest, something he later admitted when resigning as chair of the WMATA board.
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan's office says Hogan believes there's still corruption within WMATA that needs to be uncovered. Hogan's office says he is pushing for additional audits and investigations.
