Arlington Democrats Choose Nominee for County Board

Candidate will fill board seat vacated by Barbara Favola

South Carolina voters weren't the only one going to the polls Saturday.

In Arlington County, Democrats cast ballots to pick their nominee for the March 27 special election to select a new board member.

A seat opened up when former board member Barbara Favola was elected to the Virginia state senate back in November.

In Saturday's Democratic caucus, school board member Libby Garvey won a decisive victory in a field of five. She'd won the endorsement of several key elected leaders, including Favola.

Garvey will face Arlington Republican Committee Chairman Mark Kelly and Green Party candidate Audrey Clement in the special election.  In heavily Democratic Arlington though, Garvey's toughest battle may be behind her.
