British soccer star Wayne Rooney is in talks to join D.C. United, NBC Sports and WTOP report.
Both media outlets say Rooney has agreed to a deal "in principle."
"If the deal goes through Rooney would join D.C. United July 10 when the summer transfer window opens and in time for the opening of the team's new stadium Audi Field on July 14," WTOP reported Thursday.
Reports claim Rooney -- the all-time leading goal-scorer for Manchester United and the English national team -- would have a contract with Major League Soccer until the end of the 2020 season, according to NBC Sports.
