Three Capitals Set To Join Respective Nations In World Championship

The Washington Capitals may have been eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs last weekend, but that will not stop some of them from playing elsewhere.

The team announced Monday that Alex Ovechkin, Alexander Semin and Nicklas Backstrom will join their respective nations at the 2012 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship in Finland.

Ovechkin, making his eighth appearance in the tournament, and Semin, making his third, will join Team Russia; while Backstrom will join his Swedish countrymen for the fourth time.

The tournament runs through May 20; Russia's next game is Monday and Sweden's Tuesday.

All World Championship action will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network.
