Redskins Director of Security: Shanahan's Missing Property Case Ongoing

A report surfaced Tuesday that Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan had his passport and $3,700 in cash stolen from his briefcase while his team was losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers last month.

According to said report, "Shanahan chose to file a report with Pittsburgh police," but it "was withdrawn after Shanahan or someone associated with him called back, apparently the next day, and said the missing property had been stowed in another bag."

Apparently, that was not the case. Pun very much intended.

Ed Burke, Redskins Director of Security, released a statement Thursday that contradicts the earlier report:

“Mike Shanahan did have money and a passport stolen out of his locker room in Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Police insisted on filing a police report because of the missing passport.

There is an ongoing investigation. The missing property was not stowed in another bag as reported.”

(Cue suspenseful and dramatic soap opera organ chords.)

Will Mike Shanahan ever find his stolen belongings? Will we ever find out why he was carrying his passport on a trip to Pennsylvania? And what was the "something special" that Redbox sent Robert Griffin III?

Find out next week on "The Young and the Redskins."
