English Soccer Star Wayne Rooney Signs Deal With D.C. United

English soccer star Wayne Rooney has signed a deal to play with D.C. United, the team announced Thursday.

The 32-year-old former England captain posted a photograph on Twitter Thursday morning of him giving the thumbs-up while apparently sitting on an airplane and bound for the United States. Alongside the picture was an emoji of the American flag.

A few hours later, D.C. United posted a video of Rooney putting on a team uniform, with the caption "#NoWayneNoGain."

Rooney signed a three-and-a-half year contract, the team says.

"It is fantastic to be joining D.C. United at such an exciting time in the club’s history with the new stadium opening in just a few weeks," Wayne Rooney said.

Rooney left Manchester United in the offseason of 2017 after signing a two-year deal with Everton, where he started his career. However, he wasn't a regular in the team last season.

He is the all-time top scorer for both United and England. He scored 208 goals in the Premier League, second only to Alan Shearer's 260.
