Being a play-by-play announcer has to be one of the more difficult jobs out there. Not only do they have to develop credibility with their audience, but they also have to paint a picture of the action on the field while being entertaining and knowledgeable to boot.
Another thing a play-by-play announcer has to have is a mastery of the English language. MASN/Nationals commentator Bob Carpenter might need a refresher course.
During a pivotal point of the Nats' eventual 8-4 win over the Miami Marlins Wednesday, Drew Storen came on in relief with runners on second and third and nobody out. Storen got Carlos Lee to line out to center, which brought the powerful Giancarlo Stanton to the plate.
Storen would strike Stanton out on a hanging slider, which extracted some excitement from Carpenter.
Did you catch that?
In case you didn't, Carpenter said "STRUCKS HIM OUT."
It happens. After all, their only human.
