The NFL has suspended Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather two games for "repeat violations this season of NFL safety rules prohibiting hits to the head and neck area of defenseless players."
Meriweather was penalized for two hits in which he led with his head during Sunday's 45-41 victory over the Chicago Bears.
Bears receiver Brandon Marshall, who was one of the recipients and suffered a wrist injury because of Meriweather's recklessness, voiced his concern regarding illegal hits.
"I respect the league trying to better our game," Marshall told reporters. "Guys like that, maybe he needs to get suspended or taken out of the game completely."
Meriweather has already been fined by the league this season for a helmet-first hit on Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy, who suffered a concussion as a result.
