1 Man Shot Near Arundel Mills Mall; Suspect Wanted

Police in Anne Arundel, Maryland, said they are looking for an attempted murder suspect after one person was shot Saturday night in a "targeted incident."

Anne Arundel police said they are looking for Jamari Marquese Hammond, a 16-year-old being charged as an adult, for an attempted murder Saturday night.

Two groups or individuals who knew each other got into an altercation that ended with one person shooting another in the lower torso, police said.

Police said they received initial reports about 7:45 p.m. about a shooting at Arundel Mills Mall in Hanover. They responded to entrance three of the mall, which is near the Live! Casino and family-friendly entertainment venue Medieval Times.

While they were investigating, a man suffering a gunshot wound walked into a hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening and he's in stable condition, police said.

Police later confirmed that the victim at the hospital was involved in the shooting incident at the mall. It's unclear exactly whether the shooting occurred inside or outside the building.

"Detectives believe this was a targeted incident. Numerous interviews will be conducted throughout the evening," the Anne Arundel Police Department said on its Twitter page.

Police reviewed surveillance camera footage, interviewed witnesses and were able to identify a suspect.

Police ask for anyone with information to call 410-222-8610.

Correction, Saturday, Feb. 16: A previous headline misspelled the name of the mall, Arundel Mills Mall. Also, police initially said Hammond's age was 17. He is 16.
