What the Hail, April?

Pea-sized hail falls on Washington region

April showers are expected -- how else would we get May flowers? -- but do they have to have ice in them? Parts of the Washington region saw pea sized hail this weekend, including Nationals Park.

National Weather Service meteorologist Heather Sheffield said the office had between 20 and 30 reports of pea-sized hail Saturday from the city and suburbs to the west. Most of the reports came in between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The hail caused about an hour-long delay in Nationals-Braves game at Nationals Park.

Sunday's sunny and warmer, though, with temperatures expected to approach 60 degrees, according to NBC Washington meteorologist Chuck Bell.
