You'll need to find your nearest pool or movie theater if you want to find any relief from the heat this week.

The pre-summer heatwave continues Tuesday, with the possibility of storms and a high of 93 degrees.

A code orange air quality alert is in effect for the area due to building concentrations of air pollution, which is a threat to young children, the elderly and anyone with heart or respiratory ailment.

With the temperature reaching 91 degrees and a heat index of 96, D.C. activated its heat emergency plan after noon. Residents are urged to take precautions against the heat.

D.C.'s Department of Parks and Recreation opened its spray parks a week early Tuesday due to the forecast. All spray parks are operating from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The rest of the week will be much of the same, with highs in the 90s and chances of storms each day.

On Wednesday, we'll have the hottest day of the heat wave -- a high of 96 with steamy humidity that will feel like 100 degrees or higher.

Thursday's high of 93 will come with a 30-percent chance of storms, and Friday's high will be about 90 degrees.

The temps will drop slightly by this weekend -- into the mid-80s -- but that chance of storms will remain.
