No Snowball Fight Today – Sorry, Kids

Organizers had hoped to take advantage of D.C. storm with another installment of its Dupont Circle snowball fight.

It's not easy running an annual snowball fight in a city that doesn't see much snow.

And today, the goal of a yearly pummeling remained elusive.

Organizers of the 'Official Dupont Circle Snowball Fight' - which hasn't been held for two years, thanks to warm weather - had hoped to hold an installment this year. They jumped at the possibility that Wednesday's storm would give them their chance; almost 400 people said they planned to attend the event on Facebook.

But there wasn't quite enough snow at 4 p.m. Organizers moved it to 8 p.m. in hopes that more snow would fall, but that didn't happen.

So Wednesday afternoon, the group said on its Facebook page that they were cancelling this year's installment:

Well, that's all folks. Sadly, the Noquester promised much & delivered nada. So DCSFA is returning to hibernation mode until next winter. Thanks to everyone who shared their enthusiasm, and yes, even sarcasm, on this page - which is staying up in tribute. And let's give it another shot in 2013/2014!
