WASHINGTON -- A severe thunderstorm watch for the D.C. area was extended until 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Also, several severe storm warnings and a flash flood warning were issued for Wednesday night. A flash flood watch is in effect into Thursday.

Thunderstorms have dropped up to an inch of rain over parts of the warned area since 5 p.m., and up to two more inches are possible in parts of the area. Residents of areas prone to flooding should be wary of flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, drainage areas, and low-lying areas.

Wind gusts up to 60 mph are possible with the storms, as well as penny-size hail.
