    The National Weather Service issued watches for the D.C. area Thursday.

    Most of the D.C. metropolitan area is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. and a flash flood watch until midnight.

    A flood warhing for Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's counties in Maryland expires at 8:45 p.m.

    Doppler radar detected severe storms in the area Thursday afternoon into the evening.
