Slick Roads Delay Some Schools; Winter Weather Advisory in Effect

Drivers may be in for a slick commute Tuesday morning as freezing rain left some untreated surfaces icy overnight.

Parts of the D.C. area remain under a winter weather advisory. The advisory continues until 6 a.m. for much of the area and 9 a.m. for Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties.

Several schools systems are operating under a two-hour delay, including Prince William County in Virginia and Prince George's, Howard and Frederick counties in Maryland.

Officials in Anne Arundel County decided to close county schools after initially announcing a two-hour delay.

A trace of ice is possible on area roads through the morning rush.

Any untreated surfaces may be slippery. Anyone driving Tuesday morning should be careful.

A number of accidents were reported throughout the region, including multiple wrecks on Interstates 95 and 97, and U.S. Route 50.

Crews with the Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration were deployed overnight to treat roadways and were planning to continue storm operations through the morning rush hour.

The cold weather will stick around Wednesday and Thursday, with flurries possible Thursday. The coldest weather we've seen all winter is likely this weekend.
