The D.C. area hit record low temperatures Wednesday.
Dulles International Airport dipped down to 14 degrees Wednesday morning. National Weather Service meteorologist Kevin Witt says that's 6 degrees colder than the previous record low for Nov. 19, which was 20 degrees in 1990.
Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport also broke its previous record Wednesday morning. The temperature at the airport fell to 19 degrees, breaking the record low set in 1936 by one degree.
District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray declared a cold-weather emergency on Tuesday. That allows the District to implement additional measures beyond traditional shelters for the city's homeless, such as warming sites.
More seasonable temperatures are forecast for the rest of the week.
