Council Sounds the Horn for Streetcars

D.C. Council members approved 37 miles of overhead wires for trolleys

All aboard, the D.C. Council has given the go ahead for 37 miles of overhead wires to run a trolley system in northeast Washington.

Every member was on board to make the vote unanimous despite dissent from local preservation groups that the cables will mar the face of the capital.

Streetcars will run on Benning Road and H Street.

The legislation prohibits future lines to be put on Pennsylvania Avenue between Congress and the White House.

The public will also be allowed to weigh in on where wires can be installed on other street in Washington.
