Metrobus Has More Security Incidents Than Other Bus Systems

Commuters who ride Washington's bus system are at a greater risk of experiencing security incidents than on other major bus system in the nation.

Citing data from the National Transit Database, The Washington Post reports that Metrobus has the highest rates of security incidents among nine other major transit systems, including New York, Boston and Chicago. According to the data, Metrobus has a rate of 2.8 security incidents per 10 billion passenger trips.

The bus system also has the third-highest rates for collisions with 10.9 incidents per 10 billion passenger trips and the third-highest rates for injuries and fatalities with 23.9 incidents per 10 billion passenger trips.

Metro is the nation's sixth-largest bus system. It has an average of 465,000 daily riders and more than 300 routes.
