Are you a MetroAccess rider? Be prepared for some changes coming soon.
Starting Jan. 31, 2011, Metro says your token and paper fare cards will no longer be accepted.
Instead of tokens and paper cards, riders have the option to pay in cash at the time of their boarding, or they can prepay for their trips with credit or debit by calling 301-562-5360 or visiting http://www.wmata.com/accessibility/metroaccess_service/.
These options are already available, and starting Dec. 5, the use of tokens or paper cards will result in additional handling time to each trip, according to Metro.
MetroAccess fares will also be changing starting Dec. 5. Riders will now be charged distance-based fares. Metro said the fares will be twice the price of what the same trip would cost on Metrobus or Metrorail but will not exceed $7.
MetroAccess is “a shared-ride, door-to-door, paratransit service for people whose disability prevents them from using bus or rail.”
