I-495 Closures Planned So Officials Can Put Up Sign

Virginia officials plan to close lanes of northbound Interstate 495 just north of the Dulles Access Road during nighttime hours Monday so they can install an overhead sign structure.

The sign installation is part of a project to allow the shoulder of the road to be used for rush hour traffic.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says weather permitting it will start single-lane closures at approximately 10 p.m. Monday, followed by multiple lane closures. After midnight, all lanes will be closed for 20 minutes at two different times while crews install a sign structure.

All lanes should reopen by 5 a.m. Tuesday.

The I-495 Shoulder Lane Use project will allow traffic to travel 1.8 miles on the left shoulder of northbound I-495 during rush hours. It's expected to be finished in spring 2015.
