House Lawmakers Review Metro Safety

The independent oversight agency for Metro is working to respond to a Federal Transit Administration audit that found serious deficiencies, officials said.

Tri-State Oversight Committee Chairman Matt Bassett told The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Wednesday that his agency is working diligently to respond to the FTA's March review.

The FTA found deep deficiencies at the committee and Metro. The oversight committee has until May 4 to respond to the FTA.

Interim Metro General Manager Richard Sarles said Metro also is addressing the recommendations from the FTA audit.

FTA Administrator Peter Rogoff presented the audit to the full House committee, saying there are "serious organizational problems" at Metro, citing inadequate communicate and management resources.
