D.C. Streetcars to Begin Running in November

Washington, D.C.'s long awaited streetcar program is expected to start carrying passengers in November.

A source with direct knowledge of the program tells News 4 the streetcars are still being put through some tests, but tests have been going smoothly and service is expected to start in November.

The streetcar rollout on H Street and Benning Road in Northeast has been plagued by setbacks and delays. Many in the neighborhood have been wondering when the trains would start service.

The DC Department of Transportation says pre-revenue service, or simulated service, will start next Monday, September 29.

This is the first segment of what D.C. transportation leaders say will eventually be a city-wide streetcar program.
