Congressman Becomes a Slug for a Day

Rep. Connolly joined a slug line to get to work

U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly is a slug of the people.

He hopped a ride to work on Friday from the Tackett's Mill commuter lot in Woodbridge, Va. From there, it was off to Rosslyn to catch the Metro to Capitol Hill and the Cannon House Office Building.

Connolly, a Democrat, is up for re-election this fall. He's facing Republican Keith Fimian, who lost in the same matchup two years ago.

"We need more transportation investment in the state of Virginia," Connolly said. "We're doing our bit at the federal level. I've been very proud to bring a lot of transportation investment to this district and to northern Virginia in general, but we need a lot more."

Connolly said he's planning a transportation blitz over the next few weeks. That means riding Metro, hopping VRE from Prince William County, taking a PRTC commuter bus and driving from Bristow to D.C. using Linton Hall Road.
