It’s another push to promote Virginia’s growing wine industry.
A new wine website was launched Friday.
The state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services said the online ordering system is for the Virginia Winery Distribution Company.
The nonprofit was created by the General Assembly in 2007 to give Virginia wineries and farm wineries an alternative to using independent wine wholesalers.
The Virginia Winery Distribution Company said the website creates one-stop shopping for restaurants and consumers.
Right now, less than 5 percent of wine that's consumed in Virginia actually comes from Virginia.
Gov. Bob McDonell said he hopes the wine website will significantly increase sales for Virginia wineries.
