Penny Pincher: Free Holiday Card Workshop

Don't buy a card this year, make one for free

Make your Christmas cards stand out this year with the Victorian-Era Holiday Card Workshop. The Clara Barton National Historic Site is hosting free card workshops.

Take a picture and imagine the look on loved ones’ faces as they open the card to see you decked out in Victorian-era clothes on the holiday card.

Decorations for the card all relate to Red Cross founder Clara Barton’s life and include an envelope seal Barton used for her own card, the red cross symbol, flowers and animals including a picture of Barton’s own cat Tommy.

It’s fun for kids and grown-ups alike.

Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, you can create a holiday greeting card of any kind or just a regular card to give to a loved one.

Workshops take place on Dec. 6 and 7 and start at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Participants must make reservations so call 301-320-1410.
