One way to make holiday shopping bearable: Combine it with scenic surroundings, delicious food and even live entertainment. That’s exactly what they're doing downtown.
The sixth annual Downtown Holiday Market returns Friday. Starting at noon, shoppers will be able to enjoy holiday shopping outdoors on F Street N.W. between 7th and 9th.
The market will include more than 175 rotating exhibitors and artisans -- around 50 each week -- providing an eclectic mix of products, including jewelry, photography, clothing and specialty foods.
Shoppers can enjoy the market from noon until 8 p.m. every day through Dec. 23. With the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery in the background, those in search of unique gifts are bound to be inspired.
Local vendors make up the majority of the market, but merchants from all over the country come to town to show off their goods.
Plus, you can chow down on goodies like empanadas, pastries and sandwiches while soaking up genres of music including swing, blues and reggae.
Last year's event drew more than 150,000 shoppers. The market is accessible by Metro, Downtown Circulator and Metrobus. SmartBikes are located on-site.
