Don’t be alarmed if you saw cop cars lining the Target store in Columbia Heights on Thursday morning.

Dozens of officers participatied in “Shop with a Cop” -- an annual event where more than 100 local children shop for holiday gifts, toys and clothes alongside the Metropolitan Police Department.

The children were pre-selected based on financial need and community involvement.

To sweeten the deal, each child received a $100 gift card, and officers accompanied children through the store as they carefully chose their purchases.
