Costco Coming to D.C.

Mayor Adrian Fenty's office sent out a media release Monday night stating that a big announcement would be made Tuesday about bringing a Costco to D.C.

The press conference, to be held at 33rd and Fort Lincoln Drive, Northeast, would announce a financing package to bring the first Costco and Shoppers Food and Pharmacy to the District.

That's big news, as the Costco would be the first free-standing box store in D.C.

But the press conference was abruptly canceled Tuesday morning.

Was the deal off? Was there a last-minute snag?

As of now, it only looks like a matter of logistics. Officials said the event was postponed because several of the big developers couldn't make it. They're trying to reschedule it for later in the week.

But until then, D.C. residents can dream of soon buying mayonnaise in bulk within District lines.
